02 / The project

An idea with a purpose.

Treety explores a buried storage box that captures curb runoff and uses sand wicks to deliver moisture below the surface, near a young street tree. The goal is to support tree establishment while encouraging roots to grow away from the sidewalk.

Designed around the dry season.

I’m developing Treety for the USC Tie-Hub SHIP Fund. The project combines an interactive seasonal water model, a component-by-component design explanation, and plans for a bench prototype to measure wick performance. The simulation lets you compare rainfall and summer water-use assumptions, while the full project lays out the open questions and pilot plans.

  • Explore a year of storage, rainfall, water delivery, overflow, and refills.
  • Inspect the original diagram and the role of each component.
  • Follow the bench-prototype plan and the questions that remain before field testing.

In development for the USC Tie-Hub SHIP Fund. Model estimates and design targets are still being evaluated; this is not a completed field trial.
